What is an Apprenticeship?

  • Apprenticeships are designed to enable industries to recognise people as skilled in their area of work.

  • Very important for industry and YOU to enable YOU to develop YOUR career short and long term, gain promotions, etc……

  • Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.

The Apprenticeship includes Qualifications that support YOU in developing YOUR skills and knowledge for YOUR job role

As an apprentice you’ll:

  • Be employed, earn a wage, get holiday pay

  • Work alongside experienced staff, gain job-specific skills

  • Get time for study related to your role

  • You are entitled to a NUS Card


Length of training

An Apprenticeship can take between 12 and 18 months to complete.

Your employer: what they agree to

  • Before you start, your employer will set up an Apprenticeship Agreement. They will agree to support your time out to study, and provide a mentor for you at work.

  • In your job role you will be given targets to achieve. You will have regular review meetings with your line manager and training provider to make sure that you are making progress.


Your College: how we support YOU

  • About Aston

  • Once you have signed up with a Aston you officially become an apprentice.

  • Your Apprenticeship training is carried out within your workplace, NO college required

  • You will have a tutor assigned solely for you, NO classrooms

  • You will have a full induction at the very start of your Apprenticeship, IN your workplace

  • Your tutor will visit you every 4-6 x weeks and work with you to gain the Qualifications, this will include setting you work as targets to be completed as agreed

  • Your Tutor will be in contact with you between visits to support you with your work and study

  • You also have a second tutor available remotely via “skype” who will also be available to support you with your studies.

  • You have designated learning resources and activities available within our website


What qualifications does your Apprenticeship contain? This depends on which Apprenticeship you are undertaking:

Trade Business Services Apprenticeship

  • Level 2 Certificate in Trade Business Services (this is a Competence/practical/Skills) Qualification

  • Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Trade Business Services (this is a Theory/Knowledge) Qualification

  • Functional Skills qualification in English (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in English then you are exempt from this

  • Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in Maths then you are exempt from this

Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship

  • Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage (this is a Competence/practical/Skills/ Knowledge) Qualification

  • Functional Skills qualification in English (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in English then you are exempt from this

  • Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in Maths then you are exempt from this

  • Level 2 Employee Rights and Responsibilities (this is a Theory/Knowledge) Qualification

Business and Administration Apprenticeships

  • Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration (this is a Competence/practical/Skills/ Knowledge) Qualification

  • Functional Skills qualification in English (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in English then you are exempt from this

  • Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in Maths then you are exempt from this

  • Functional Skills qualification in ITQ (Level 1) if you have a GCSE grade D or above or equivalent in ITQ then you are exempt from this


The process:

  • You complete an enrolment form, and return to us

  • You complete an online initial assessment (we send you details) it’s not pass or fail

  • We organise your induction in your workplace, and set you some tasks

  • Your tutor visits you (within 4 x weeks from induction)

  • Your tutor will visit you every 6-8 x weeks and work with you to gain the Qualifications, this will include setting you work as targets to be completed as agreed

  • Your Tutor will be in contact with you between visits to support you with your work and study

  • You also have a second tutor available remotely via “skype” who will also be available to support you with your studies.

  • You have designated learning resources and activities available within our website

  • We are available to you at all times to support you with any issues, concerns…..to offer confidential advice and guidance.
