What is this qualification?
This qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It involves the skills and knowledge needed for occupations in fabricating and welding including the, ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems. NVQ’s are based on national occupational standards, which the learner must meet to be competent in a particular task. The achievement of NVQ’s will encourage an employee to value their contribution to the workplace, and it will develop their skills and potential within the fabricating and welding field. 
Who is this qualification for? 
 Individuals who need recognition of their competence in one or more of a wide variety of fabricating and welding activities and also need a nationally recognised qualification at level three 
 Learners who are undertaking a apprenticeship and wish to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship, 
 Those who are working in a fabricating and welding environment and would like to work towards a relevant Level 3 qualification, 
 Those who are new to fabricating and welding but are looking for a career change and wish to develop new skills within the industry. 
What does this qualification cover? 
The skills and knowledge in one or more of a wide variety of Marine engineering activities including: 
 manual welding, 
 welding machine setting and operating, 
 sheet metalworking (3mm or less), 
 plateworking (3mm upwards), 
 structural steelwork, 
 pipe and tube fabrication, 
 composite fabrication.
