24+ Advanced Learning Loans

What Are They?

24+ Advanced Learning Loans are for learners aged 24 and above in further education and training studying at Level 3 or 4

You can apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of your qualification which will be paid directly to the College on your behalf.

The loans application process will launch in April 2013 for the academic year 2013/14. 24+ Advanced Learning Loans are similar to higher education loans.

The loans are not means tested or credit checked and any individual who meets the criteria will be able to apply for a loan whether they’re employed or unemployed – the loan will then be paid directly to the college on your behalf.

Aston's process;

  1. To take a look at the qualifications we offer, please click here (If you are using Google Chrome please see the download tab below)
  2. Questions, let us know
  3. We will confirm the cost
  4. Are you eligible?
    • Aged 24 or over on first day of your course (there's no upper age limit)
    • Living in the UK on the first day of your course and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years
    • Studying with a college or training organisation in England approved for public funding
    • Enrolling on an eligible course at Level 3 and Level 4 (which includes A levels, Access to HE Diplomas and other Diplomas and Certificates) and Advanced or Higher Apprenticeships.
  5. Complete and return Aston's Enrolment document.
  6. We can then generate a letter which will include your course code, personal loan application code and your course start date.
  7. Apply for loan; (remember loans are not means tested so if you are 24+ the loan will go through, also we can guide you through the process if required).
  8. We receive notification of the loan in place.
  9. You are now enrolled, and ready to start your programme.

You don’t pay anything up front for your course fees and if you’re not earning over £21k per year or £1750 per month, you won’t pay anything back! That’s not all – outstanding balances are written off after 30 years!

Applying is easy

You can apply now for a loan for courses starting between 1 August 2013 and 31 July 2014.  Apply online or download and application form at www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans

Also

If your loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme AND you progress to complete a Higher Education programme, you will not have to pay back your FE loan!

For apprenticeships the learner and employer are expected to share the costs of the course, so the loan you would take out would only be for half the course cost.
